SSTTDC is the local redevelopment agency that oversees and regulates the transformation of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station into the 1,400-acre community of SouthField on behalf of host communities Abington, Rockland and Weymouth. Established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Legislature, SSTTDC selected LNR Property Corporation as master developer of the site in 2002. LNR is creating a phased village-style live/work/shop/play community with expected completion in 2017. Nearly three fourths of the site (1,000 acres) is being preserved and set aside for open space and recreation uses.

As the local administrative, regulatory and permitting entity, SSTTDC's role includes stimulating economic activity and job creation while minimizing and mitigating impacts on water resources, air quality, traffic and noise. Representing SouthField's three Host Communities (Abington, Rockland and Weymouth), SSTTDC's Board of Directors is committed to a plan that is environmentally sensitive, technically sound, and economically viable.
