Water

The Base’s existing water distribution system is fed by the Town of Weymouth’s system with an agreement not to exceed 150,000 gallons per day of potable water.

The Plan is likely to require 1.3 million gallons per day. Water demand for commercial/biomedical use is estimated at 750 gpd per 1,000 s/f of building space. The residential demand is based on 65 gallons per capita per day. Golf course irrigation is estimated at 500,000 gpd during grow-in period and 300,000 gpd during peak irrigation season. General landscaping irrigation is estimated at 150,000 gpd.

Permanent water supply options are being discussed with Mass. Water Resources Authority (MWRA). Other alternatives including Aquaria, Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD), Hull Desalination, Aquarion Water Company and on-site wells (to be considered a fall back option)

Reclaimed wastewater will be used for irrigation. Approximately 264 acres (18%) of the Base is either paved or covered with buildings. All on-site stormwater runs off into the surrounding wetland areas and drainage channels.

A self-sufficient system using stormwater, graywater, recycling and on-site sources will be utilized to handle the needs of the development.
