The Reuse Plan is based on Smart Growth principles of compact development, ample open spaces, a mix of housing and commercial development and transportation choices.
Sustainable development is also integrated into the Reuse Plan with water conservation and re-use, “green” building design standards and environmentally sensitive open space and golf course designs.
The Reuse Plan is anticipated to result in the creation of two broad categories of jobs at the site – permanent on-site jobs and construction jobs. The Plan has the potential to create up to 12,000 direct and indirect construction jobs by the construction of the infrastructure and mixed-use development over the approximately 14-year build-out period. The commercial, retail, office, light manufacturing, hotel and golf facilities, at full build-out, should create an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 permanent on-site jobs and up to 6,000 permanent jobs generated on a regional basis.
The Reuse Plan will add significant new tax revenues to the towns of Weymouth, Rockland and Abington and provide new open space and recreation facilities for area residents.
